Hopa Mountain will host a Human Rights Day conversation beginning at 6 p.m. on Thursday, December 10. Human Rights Day presents an opportunity to celebrate human rights, highlight specific issues, and advocate for the full enjoyment of all human rights by everyone everywhere.

John Heminway, writer and filmmaker who has dedicated his career to far corners of the world, their astonishing inhabitants, rare and endangered species, brain science and humanity's eternal debt to Africa. He has written six books (four on Africa, one the American West) and has produced, directed, written and presented over 200 films.

David B. King, M.D, has a Family Medicine practice in Belgrade, is the Medical Director Bridger Rehab and Care, the Associate Medical Director, Hospice of Bozeman Health/Frontier Hospice, Member of Bozeman Health Geriatric Care Team, Medical Director Bozeman Health Clinical Research, and former board member Belgrade Community Library, presently on its fundraising committee.

John Meyer, as the founder of Cottonwood Environmental Law Center, John has won court cases that stopped construction of a $550 million coal railroad in southeast Montana, protected over 12 million acres of critical habitat for Canada lynx on Forest Service land, and protected dozens of rivers and streams from pollution.

 

7:35 to 8:05 The Right to Food for Sustainable Food Systems

Deborah Hines, a Bozeman native, is part of this year's winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, the World Food Programme. It was recognized for its efforts to combat hunger, its contribution to bettering conditions for peace in conflict-affected areas and for acting as a driving force in efforts to prevent the use of hunger as a weapon for war and conflict. She is currently co-director of South North Nexus, a new Bozeman based nonprofit that works locally and globally on climate change and social justice issues.
